The first theater the playwright saw live was 'Cabaret' with John Stamos. She learned about the show from a pamphlet her mother brought back from a housekeeping job, and bought the ticket with money earned hustling at the pool hall. 'What I Ioved most was that the characters seemed like a family,' she said.

Drama and Music entries are due by December 31. The Journalism deadline is January 25 — for the second year, magazines are eligible in all journalism categories, and Breaking News eligibility has been newly expanded.
The 2018 Drama and Music competitions will close at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii–Aleutian Standard Time on December 31, 2017.
