2020 Pulitzer Prize Contest Open to Letters, Drama and Music Entries

The Letters, Drama and Music entry site has opened for the 2020 cycle. As entrants prepare their submissions, the Pulitzers would like to flag several changes in the entry process:

  • The entry site has been redesigned. As a result, returning entrants must create new accounts.
  • A short questionnaire has been added to assist the juries and the Pulitzer Board in their assessment of the work. The questions on the questionnaire are:

Please provide a brief summary of this work (60 word limit);

Please briefly describe the origins of and inspiration for this work (250 word limit);

Please note any challenges to the originality (or accuracy, if applicable) of this work (250 word limit).
  • If you prepare multiple entries: After completing the "Confirm" step on your first entry, you will reach the "Entries requiring payment" page, which serves as your batch queue. Additional entries should be completed (using the "Submit An Entry" button on the top scroll bar) through the "Confirm" step.
  • When you are ready to pay for a group of entries, go to "My Entries" on the scroll bar and click "Continue" next to any entry on the "Entries requiring payment" step. Check the entries that you wish to pay for and click on the "Confirm and Pay" button at the bottom of the page. Non-checked entries will remain in this queue.
  • We now offer a digital uploader for Drama and Music entries: Those availing themselves of this option should submit playscripts and scores in pdf form. Web links or direct mp4 uploads are preferred for the optional Drama performance video, while hosted zip or rar links are preferred for albums. (A direct mp3/wav/flac uploader is also available; this is limited to one 100 MB file and most suitable for discrete orchestral or electroacoustic works.)
  • Online videos/recordings must remain active and accessible through the announcement of the 2020 Prizes next year. Please send any login credentials or updates to [email protected].
  • While hard copy submissions are still accepted in both categories, please email [email protected] if you intend to submit hard copies of work.
  • As a reminder, the Board has added two jurors to the Fiction and General Nonfiction categories as of the 2019 competition. Entrants who intend to submit books in either category must send six copies to the Pulitzer organization. History, Biography and Poetry entrants continue to submit four copies. We do not accept digital copies of eligible work in these categories.

Please consult the How to Enter page or the Letters, Drama and Music submission FAQs if you have any questions.

If you require additional assistance, our staff may be reached on weekdays at [email protected] or (212) 854-3841 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern time.
