Biography

Lalo Alcaraz is an award winning visual/media artist and television/film writer based in L.A. for over a quarter century. This busy Chicano artist is the creator of the nationally syndicated daily comic strip, "La Cucaracha.” A prolific award winning political cartoonist, he now creates editorial cartoons in English and Spanish for Andrews McMeel Syndication and various publications. Lalo's books include the New York Times Best- seller “A Most Imperfect Union” (2014 Basic Books) and Latino USA (2005 & 2015). Lalo was also a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer in Editorial Cartooning.

In Hollywood, Lalo was a staff writer and producer on the animated Seth MacFarlane led TV show “Bordertown” on Fox in 2014. From 2015-2017 was Cultural Consultant on the Oscar-winning Day of the Dead-themed animated global hit Pixar movie “COCO.”

Lalo is currently Cultural Consultant, Consulting Producer and Writer, first on the animated series “The Loud House” and now on “Los Casagrandes” for Nickelodeon Animation. In 2020 Lalo was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for his work on The Casagrandes. The Casagrandes won an Emmy for Best Opening, for which Lalo co-wrote the theme song.

Alcaraz is the host of KPFK Radio's satirical talk show, "The Pocho Hour of Power," on L.A.’s Pacifica station KPFK 90.7 FM. Lalo is a former illustration faculty member of Otis College of Fine Art & Design in L.A. He is a graduate of San Diego State University (BA in Art) and UC Berkeley (Master's in Architecture).

Lalo was born in San Diego, California to Mexican immigrant parents from Sinaloa and Zacatecas. He is married and has three very talented children.
