Pulitzer on the Road Podcast: Episode 2: Trapped in Mariupol

Mstyslav Chernov and two other Associated Press journalists arrived in Mariupol hours before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, becoming the only international journalists to remain in the city during its siege. Their reporting allowed the world to see horrors that otherwise would not have been captured. Chernov and his colleagues’ coverage of Mariupol, along with other stories documenting the Russian invasion of Ukraine, won The Associated Press the 2023 Public Service Prize.

Pulitzer Prize Board Announces Revisions to Photography Eligibility Requirements

“Technological innovations have made it easier to manipulate photographs and Pulitzer wants to ensure that we are honoring original work that has not been significantly altered,” said Marjorie Miller, administrator of the Prizes. “These changes reflect the best practices of photojournalism today, and are consistent with those of other journalism contests.”

The Pulitzer Prize Board has decided to postpone the 2021 award winners’ announcement. Originally scheduled for Monday, April 19, 2021, the Prizes in Journalism, Books, Drama and Music now will be announced on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 1 p.m.

Columbia University today announces the 2020 Pulitzer Prizes, awarded on the recommendation of the Pulitzer Prize Board. The Board also announces the election of its two co-chairs: Stephen Engelberg, Editor-in-Chief, ProPublica, and Aminda Marqués Gonzalez, President, Publisher and Executive Editor, Miami Herald.
